Ok, so finally I've finished 'Freedom' by Jonathan Franzen. And in the end I liked it. It's a very impressive book, a very intellectual book - still charmless in some ways though. I found it very hard to feel close to the characters although I was interested in them from start to finish. I think it's a very male book - I wonder if that is where the sense of distance lies, and I don't mean that in a frivolous way.
But imagine writing a book like that. Incredible.
I'm sending my book off to some agents tommorrow - fingers crossed.

Okay, weird comment above...sweeping that aside...good luck with your book!!! I'm feeling the same way about Toni Blair's autobiography. It's interesting, very male, and seemingly important to read but...I've now picked up The Girl Who Played with Fire and Toni is getting a little sidelined.
Or is it Tony Blair?? Oops.
Good luck! I need a final rewrite and my book will be out in the world as well.
p.s. you won an award over at my blog!
I got one of those weird posts too. He obviously doesn't know I'm married to one, but I digress.
Good luck Kate. All fingers and toes crossed
Yeah weird comment as a lot of that could describe British women too! But hey why would some of us want to marry full stop as what he describes is a bloke anyway ha ha!!!
Good luck with the book x
Yup - very odd comment. But thanks for all the others! And Rebecca - I loved the Steig Larsson books. Fantastic!
