Kate's Blog

Follow me if you will as I try to navigate through the ups and downs of my world.

I'm writing this blog to help me make sense of all that has happened - from my diagnosis with non-Hodgkins lymphoma while pregnant with my third child in May 2008
, through to my reflections on chaotic family life as I try to pick up the pieces of my life again.

The kids are so small, and I'm working hard to keep us all safe and to stay in remission.

Stay with me - it won't be all doom and gloom I promise!

Whisky, Red and 'The Slap'

Home from Scotland just in time to see the X Factor. That said, after 8 hours of Hattie shouting in the car (with Ed and Martha contributing) over Harry Potter on the Ipod - I'm not sure that I can cope with anything noisier than a darkened room and a very large whisky.

And.... very exciting. My copy of the December edition of Red was waiting for me on the doormat. And there, in black and white was MY ARTICLE!! The photos aren't too bad considering I'm not exactly a natural supermodel. It feels a bit wierd but I'm very pleased with it.

Definitely a darkened room and some whisky.

P.S Has anyone read 'The Slap' by Christos Tsiolkas? I read mixed reviews but am now, only a little way in, completely hooked. So far so good I think.

How do I access your article? I'd love to read it!
Sorry, I haven't read The Slap. I'm only just starting The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo!

Hmm - I don't know if it'd be online. I guess not. I'm not sure how you could read it but it must be possible in this high-tech day and age. I LOVED The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Yeah, Kate!!! How exciting for you! I will try hard to find the article from here in the states.

I have not read The Slap. And, while I enjoyed reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, (I found all that Swedishness fascinating), I now wish that I had not. There are just some things I do not need in my head. I have a copy of the second in the series and will give it away unread to any takers.

Well, I agree in many ways. The first in the trilogy was definitely the most disturbing. Unpleasant stuff but gripping nevertheless. I hope you do get to read the article. Thanks for your support.

Hello! As a Red reader (how I love seeing it lying in its wrapper all shiny and new) I wanted to say Hi after reading your lovely article, and immediately wanted to read your blog too. One of the first things I notice is that I have spookily just about read and enjoyed most of the same books as you. Not read the Slap - somehow it didn't appeal, but a friend was raving about it at the weekend so maybe....

Thanks for your comment Kerry - and thanks for reading the article and following my blog. I love the shininess of the magazine too. Heaven knows how I ended up in it!

It was a complete lump in the throat read but most of all it was about a real person not an illness. Fab writing and I hope both you and the writing go from strength to strength. x

hello, My name is Olga, I just read the article on you in Red today. I have three kids myself, I can just imagine how challenging all this has been for you. I found your story very encouraging, it was worth to buy Red for this article only;) good luck for you and your family!
